In fashion hairstyling, I'm always looking for new ways to transform the models' hair. Crazy colors are all the rage, but we can't just dye the models' hair however we want. I wanted a bold color change—but one that wasn't permanent!

Sometimes on Fridays, I’d want a wild hair color, but by Monday morning, I wouldn’t want it anymore. I wanted to be able to apply it and remove it just as easily. I wondered if hair dye couldn’t be as easy to apply as makeup? I’ve been experimenting with pigments since the 1980s, obsessed with the powdered wigs of the French Revolution. The inspiration came from that era, but I wanted it to be intense, almost neon—like a flash of color that would make it modern.
