It was in homage to the heroine of the novel *La Bataille*, which was a huge success at the time, that Jacques Guerlain names its creation Mitsouko. A beautiful Japanese woman who is married, Mitsouko secretly loves a British officer. In 1905, the Russo-Japanese War breaks out. Nobly suppressing her feelings, Mitsouko waits with dignity for the outcome of the battle.

Jacques's incredible idea Guerlain...which gives this fragrance its modern edge, is the bold combination of a chypre with a note as fruity as peach.

Designed by George Chevalier, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is accentuated by the graceful scrollwork characteristic of Art Nouveau. A true technical feat, its avant-garde stopper—shaped like a hollowed-out heart—evokes the delicate romanticism of this landmark in the world of perfumery.
